Biography
Colonel Fernando Antonio ACERO MARTÍN is a member of the 37TH CLASS of the SPAF Air Academy, where in 1985 he received his commission as Lieutenant in the Troops and Services Echelon. During his first year as a Lieutenant he completed the Signals Course at the SPAF Signals School in Cuatro Vientos, Madrid. Upon its completion he was assigned to the 14TH Wing, and subsequently he completed the Electronics and Digital Transmission Course. After his promotion to Captain he was posted to the Air Surveillance Squadron in Villatobas (Toledo). Upon completion of the Military Airlift Course in Salamanca, he was assigned as an instructor to the 42nd Air Force Group, where he logged up 2600 flight hours.
Besides flying, all his assignments have been related to systems maintenance, communications, electronics, information systems, ciphering, electronic warfare or communications and information security.
After completing the VI Staff Course of the Armed Forces, he was assigned to the Materiel Resources Section of the Logistics Division, Air Staff. Now he is assigned as Director of Cyber Defense of Spanish Air Force.
As for the civilian domain, and starting in 1987, he has written a good number of books, articles and encyclopaedias on security, information systems and electronics for various publishing houses. He also was director of Maintenance and After-Sales Service for two years at Sperry/Unisys in Albacete. Since 2001 he has been a member of the Free Software Users Association (Hispalinux). As an expert in free software and especially in the Linux Operational System, he has taught and given lectures in Universities and other institutions, and he has also participated in government work groups for the implementation of free software and open standards in public Administrations.
In 2003 he worked with the Junta de Extremadura, an autonomous governing body, in the debugging of the Linex “Woody” operational system. He has also written several users’ manuals for the OpenOffice suite which have been translated into the Basque language by the Basque Government. He is also a frequent contributor to forums specializing in programming, computer information security, information systems law, privacy and cryptography, on which he has published several articles and works.
