How will the future of Travis CI after being acquired by Idera?
The well-known open source continuous integration services company, Travis CI, was acquired earlier this year by Idera, Inc., a US company that provides application and systems management software for servers of the 2 most used operating systems worldwide: Microsoft Windows and Linux.
This acquisition according to both companies, will benefit the two parties as the boom of other services similar to those offered by Travis CI was taking away the market, while Idera, intends to enter the DevOps business.
Konstantin Haase, founder of Travis CI, commented in his blog that due to his participation in the open source community and his current acquisition by Idera, “we now offer improved features, performance and support for projects and equipment of all sizes”. He stressed that the company serves more than 700,000 users and that they have clients like IBM, Schibsted and Zendesk, among others, and that the merge with Idera will help them improve, expand their success and “help many more people build better, faster software. “
Haase emphasized that the company will not stop making open source projects after merging with Idera, therefore, he indicated in his blog that they will continue “maintaining a free and hosted service for open source projects, and we will continue building features for the open source community. ” Likewise, he explained that the company’s code will remain open and under the MIT license, because as he commented “this is what we are, this is what made us successful”, referring to open source.
How do you think the purchase of Travis CI by Idera could affect open source?
