How technology can reduce gender inequality

One of the most controversial issues of our century is the gender inequality that exists worldwide. Among the different forms of inequality between men and women, one of the most worrying is: the pay gap.

Although there are more and more companies, especially from developed countries, which start measures to promote equality and diversity, we still find data such that in the world 7 out of 10 poor people are women, according to the United Nations (UN).

In this context, the SAP company dedicated to the development of software for business management, concluded after an analysis that they failed to increase the number of women on staff or in management positions, even having promoted policies of gender equality. This was due to the unconscious biases of the labor sector, according to the news portal web Equipos y Talento.

Given this situation, SAP developed a novel technological initiative that aimed to eliminate these biases of companies, called Bussiness Beyond Bias. The project used Artificial Intelligence (AI) to eliminate any type of sexist language in the advertisements of job offers. On the other hand, due to the use of Machine Learning, the ideal candidates were found, adjusting salaries to the level of difficulty of tasks and responsibility, independently of gender.

According to SAP, Bussiness Beyond Bias allows to visualize the diversity of gender in the different departments and compare the data with the market.
